That animation didn't have to just be for kids. That it could be satirical and observational and grounded in a sense of character interaction". Hirsch said he was at the California Institute of the Arts when he turned down DreamWorks Animation executive Jeffrey Katzenberg out of a desire to work for Disney. The series was inspired by Hirsch's own childhood experiences and his relationship with his own twin sister growing up during their summer vacations, such as roadside attractions including the Mystery Spot and Oregon Vortex , and a road sign for a town named Boring.

The unnamed taxi driver is a resident from Gravity Falls, Oregon. The taxi driver first appears in " Not What He Seems ," after Stan escapes from Agent Powers , he asks the driver if he knows where the Mystery Shack is. He answers yes and Stan gives him a handful of money that he previously stole and asks him to drive as far away as possible from the Shack and don't stop when the police starts to chase him. After being asked he accept the request. He reappears in " Weirdmageddon 2: Escape From Reality " and " Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls " among the people petrified by Bill in his throne.
His full appearance is unknown, due him appearing from the chest up, but he wears a yellow shirt with a white t-shirt underneat and has an oval face with a big nose and has a black mustache.
